Sky is to launch seven new HD channels this October bringing the total number of available services on the platform to 26. Six of the new stations will be genre specific movie channels, replicating the standard definition movie package, while the seventh channel will be an HD version of Sky Real Lives.
“With equipment prices falling and the choice of content increasing, this is shaping up to be a big year for HD. Almost half a million homes are already enjoying Sky+ HD and we’re excited to be offering even more HD content to our customers,” commented Sky’s head of advanced TV products Hilary Perchard. It is anticipated that 30 HD channels will be available on the Sky platform before the end of the year.
The full list of new movie channels is: Sky Movies Action/Thriller HD, Sky Movies Sci-Fi/Horror HD, Sky Movies Drama HD, Sky Movies Modern Greats HD, Sky Movies Family HD and Sky Movies Comedy HD.
Key titles include the UK HD premieres of Lock Stock and Two Smokin’ Barrels, Tarzan, The Sound Of Music alongside The Bourne Ultimatum, Die Hard 4.0, Casino Royale, Robocop and 28 Weeks Later.
