Modern Times Group’s Viasat is to withdraw its channels from Elion’s digital TV offer in Estonia from next month.
Speaking to the local press, Krista Leppiko, the CEO of Viasat Estonia, said that the move was being undertaken on strategic grounds, though she declined to elaborate.
However, observers believe it may be in order to strengthen Viasat’s own position in the Estonian digital marketplace.
Elion is a division of the TDF-backed incumbent telco Eesti Telekom. Its IPTV platform DigiTV currently has 66,000 subscribers, some 10% of which receive Viasat channels.
