Sony Pictures Television International said it has struck a deal with Deutsche Telekom to make newly released and selected library titles available for purchase via Videoload, an online VOD service from the incumbent. Once downloaded, users may burn films onto a DVD (once only) and transfer them to three more PCs as well as a mobile device. Prices start at €6.99.
A number of recent hits are already available on the so-called “electronic sell-through” service, including The Da Vinci Code, and the comedy Superbad. The lineup of available titles from Sony Pictures will be expanded gradually over the coming months.
Stuart Baxter, the executive VP of European distribution at SPTI, said in a prepared statement: “Videoload has clearly demonstrated its strong track record and expertise in the effective delivery of online content. It has become a key player in meeting consumers’ needs to both rent and purchase movie entertainment digitally. We are very pleased to further strengthen our existing relationship with Deutsche Telekom.”
