The possibility of a standards war in the mobile TV space has come a step closer after Qualcomm succeeded in the latest Ofcom spectrum auction.
Qualcomm UK Spectrum Ltd has been awarded spectrum in the L-band (1452-1492) for a licence fee of £8,334,000.
Qualcomm has previously conducted UK tests in Cambridge and Manchester. Its proprietary system competes with the EU approved DVB-H.
The spectrum was auctioned online with bids closing on May 14. Qualcomm will be able to take possession of the spectrum with immediate effect.
