MultiChoice Hellas is renewing its contract for capacity at the Eutelsat Hot Bird neighbourhood through until 2020. At the same time the Greek DTH platform is taking a fifth transponder as the broadcaster prepares to launch HDTV services.
MultiChoice launched the NOVA DTH platform in 1999, building to 350,000 subscribers in Greece and Cyprus. Last month it was announced that the platform was being sold by its South Afrian owners to the telco Forthnet.
The new owners will have to tackle the arrival of a new competitor in the form of Hellas Sat HD, which will no doubt have helped the decision to lease a fifth transponder.
