ESPN Classic is to launch in the South African market following an agreement with Multichoice. The channel will broadcast 24/7 on the DStv platform. ESPN’s live sports channel has been available in the market since November 1995.
In a joint statement the two parties said South Africa’s triumphs and defeats would feature strongly in the line-up that would include FA Premier league; UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup; Serie A; FIFA World Cup, Summer & Winter Olympics, Cricket, Rugby, Tennis; Formula 1 and Moto GP motorsport.
A localised version of flagship programme SportsCenter was launched a year ago.
