A consortium made up of Antena 1 and RCS/RDS has won the broadcasting rights for the Romanian premier (National) football league for the next three seasons. In doing so, it beat off rival bids from both Realitatea TV (which is part of the Realitatea-Catavencu Trust) and Turkish-backed Kanal D.
According to the Intact Media Group, the owners of Antena 1, the winning bid amounted to €85 million (€102 million with taxes), just ahead of Realitatea TV’s €84.5 million and Kanal D’s €72.5 million.
Intact Media Group’s interests include five TV stations, while RCS/RDS is the second largest cable operator in Romania and also owns the pan-regional DTH platform Digi TV.
