Virgin Media has finally confirmed Neil Berkett in the role of chief executive officer. At the same time the resignation of chief financial officer Jacques Kerrest has also been confirmed.
The New Zealander has been at the helm as acting CEO of the cablenet since the resignation of Steve Burch last August. Berkett joined the then NTL as chief operating officer in September 2005. He has been attributed with Virgin’s recent strategy of focussing on broadband and the perceived advantages of cable over DSL-based services.
Berkett is also chairman of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children’s Corporate Development Board. He began his career with the New Zealand Post Office and has subsequently held a number of roles in the financial services sector.
Kerrest is due to leave the company in early April and a search for his successor is already underway.
