The three large German cable operators, KDG, Unitymedia and Kabel BW, now claim a total of 4 million digital households, including Premiere subscribers. Without Premiere, they had 2.67 million digital homes as of December 31, 2007.
The three operators, combined in the Deutscher Kabelverband, said that last year over one million people switched from analogue to digital. Last year also saw an impressive rise in broadband customers, with 876,000 homes receiving services at year end. This represented a growth of 125%, with 60,000 people signing up for Internet access per month in the last three months. The total number of telephony customers was 695,000, an increase from 293,000 the previous year.
During 2008, the operators will invest €400 million in the upgrading of their networks, with the goal to reaching 23 million homes passed, equivalent to two-thirds of all German homes.
