The German version of the pan-European cultural channel Arte will start regular HD transmissions on Astra on January 1, 2009. The French HD version of the channel will already be available earlier for DTT viewers in France, where the channel will start its MPEG4 HD broadcasts later this year on the terrestrial network. The German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF will follow with regular HD broadcasts on satellite following the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in February 2010.
