The French premium TV channel Canal+ will broadcast the weekly football Ligue 1 magazine programme free-to-air on Sunday evenings. The programme will show the highlights of the games played that day. Last month Canal+ snapped up most broadcast rights to the French competition, including the weekly highlights that used to be broadcast by France 2. The public broadcaster was upset it lost the rights to these highlights and is now seeking ways to gain access to these pictures. The decision to broadcast this programme without encryption is clearly aimed at diffusing unrest about the fact that all football coverage would only be available on pay television. Canal+ has an open window every day, which all viewers can see.
