The Polish DTH platform Cyfra+ has scored an important success in its battle against piracy. According to the company, a court in the town of Bechtanów has handed an individual a one year prison sentence suspended for two years plus a PLN500 (€139) fine, along with costs of PLN55,752 to Cyfra+, for illegally sharing the service with other viewers. His actions ran counter to a law on piracy that came into effect in July 2002. Cyfra+, along with several other leading players in the electronic communications sector including UPC, Multimedia Polska, Cyfrpwy Polsat and the Aster Group, is a member of the Polish anti-piracy body Sygnal.
