Germans have bought 2.23 million new digital satellite receivers during the year 2007, according to figures from the GfK research institute. This represents an increase of 230,000 sets compared with the previous year. Of these sets, 1.2 million, or slightly more than half of the total sold, were free-to-air receivers. 46% of all digital receivers sold were equipped with Common Interface rather than embedded encryption. The market share of DVB-S receivers is about 66% of the total market of all digital receivers in retail, the remainder is shared between cable and DTT tuners.
