Current TV, the user generated content channel backed by former US Vice President Al Gore, claimed 13% of its revenues from international markets in 2007. This compares to a total reliance on the US domestic market in the preceding year.
The figures are revealed in an SEC filing made by Current Media ahead of an IPO that is expected to raise $100 million, in the process clearing the debts of the venture, which launched in August 2005.
In 2006 Current TV recorded revenues of $37.9 million, rising to $63.8 million a year later. Operating losses were $4.8 million in 2006 and $6.1 million in 2007.
The channel has grown its distribution from an initial 19 million households to 51 million. The figure includes distribution in the UK and Ireland through Sky and Virgin Media. The IPO also confirms Current TV’s intentions to launch on Sky Italia this spring.
