Hungary’s Economy Minister Janos Koka has said the country is in favour of greater competition in the telco sector. Quoted in the local press, he was speaking after a meeting with the EU Commissioner for Information Society and Media Viviane Reding in Budapest and pointed to the progress the country has already made in this area. Cable and ADSL Internet subscription fees fell by 14% and 20% respectively in the year following market deregulation, while mobile services were reduced in cost by 5%. The EC will begin negotiations on the amendment of electronic communication regulations later this week.
