Fox Life cannot survive after CanalSat removal

November 18, 2007 15.13 Europe/London By Robert Briel

The French version of Fox Life will not survive if CanalSat sticks to its intention to remove the channel from its bouquet of channels. Thierry Schluck, president of Fox International channels (FIC) in Paris, told Le Monde the distribution contract with the DTH operator represents 85% of the €12 million annual budget.

CanalSat will remove Fox Life at the end of this year. The contract with the channel already expired at the end of April 2007 and CanalSat said it will go ahead and stop distribution. The channel appealed to a Paris court, but it ruled that ruled CanalSat is allowed to remove the channel. Earlier this week children’s channel Jetix announced an extension to its CanalSat contract following the resumption of carriage talks between the two.

The thematic Fox Life was launched in October 2005 in France with a mix of movies, series and docu-dramas is aimed at viewers aged between 30 and 40.
