The Austrian transmitter facilities company ORS has invited all interested parties to a roundtable discussion on November 14 on the introduction of DVB-H. The company plans to introduce a 15-channel bouquet of mobile TV channels on the proposed Mux D in the country. The application process closes a month later, on December 14th.
ORS hopes to win the licence by proposing a combined offer of all interested parties. “This way we can make DVB-H another Austrian success story,” said Michael Wagenhofer, MD of ORS. The plan is to start broadcasting in time for the European Football Championship Euro 2008.
Other potential bidders for the licence could include mobile operators such as Mobilkom and One. Whoever gets it will have to offer three ‘must carry’ channels: two from the public broadcaster ORF and one from ATV.
