German cable operator Unitymedia has said its digital switchover campaign ‘Jetzt Digital’ (Digital now) is a big success with 50,000 homes switching to digital during the past four weeks. The campaign was launched in cooperation with the regional media authorities in the states of Nord Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse.
Customers are lured to digital by the offer of a lower subscription fee (€16.90 monthly instead of €17.90 for an analogue sub) and a range of 74 television channels and 12 radio stations. People whose cable subscription is already included in their monthly rent have to pay an additional €3.90 for digital. In both cases new subscribers will be given a free digital cable tuner. Unitymedia now claims about half a million digital homes in its footprint.
