Performance Channel has launched a second channel featuring 20th century music including blues, rock, jazz and big band. Performance MainStreet will broadcast on Sky Channel 271, next to the established channel, and is designed to offer better coverage of the two main aspects of Performance Channel’s schedule.
The first month’s schedule includes editions of the classic BBC music series The Old Grey Whistle Test and includes the first British TV performance of Bob Marley and the Wailers. There are also music documentaries on Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton and Books Into Film which analyses the filmed versions of books by authors like Stephen King, JK Rowling, Tom Clancy and Nick Hornby.
Performance Channel is a well-established brand in the UK multichannel marketplace, having been an early cable only channel. It is now owned by Bristol-based Eicom, which also runs SciTech TV. In May, Performance received an Ofcom licence for a third channel, Performance at the Movies.
