Kudelski says that it is on target to more than double revenues from its so-called new business areas of terrestrial TV, IPTV and mobile TV and new products including digital video recorders push VOD and EPG technology. However, development costs, the first-time inclusion of Open TV, and the absence of last year’s one-off gains lead to a fall in first half profits from SFr90.3 million (€55.07m) to SFr28.1m. Sales within the digital TV unit increased by 16% to SFr280.5m.
Sales in the European region grew by 13.2%, Kudelski drawing attention to revenues from DTT, and the growth of its business in Eastern Europe. The figure was surpassed by the 36.8% year on year growth in Asia and Africa.
Kudelski highlighted recent contracts with Top Up TV, where the UK pay-TV platform has upgraded from the MediaGuard conditional access to the Nagravision CAS.
It was also confirmed that Nagravision would be used by the UPC Direct DTH platform in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Slovenia. UPC Broadband’s used of Nagravision is being extended to Hungary, Austria and Poland.
