Cablecom is to outsource the expansion of its network with 62 employees from its network department transferring to Alpine Energie and Cablex.
The Swiss cablenet is anticipating that one million households will have been upgraded to the new 862/65MHz network by the end of 2008. This will enable Cablecom to further expand its digital TV operations, which is experiencing a significant demand. From October 1, Cablecom will also be offering high definition transmissions.
Up to SFr150 million is being invested in network upgrades, which will at least initially reduce the amount of channel migrations to digital only transmissions, which have caused some controversy in the country.
Construction and maintenance is already carried out by contractors and all 62 workers will receive employment guarantees for the next 12 months.
