Talks aimed at ending what could be a hugely damaging dispute for the Hungarian cable industry will get under way next week. According to Ferenc Kéry, the president of the Hungarian Cable Communications Association (HCA), between 60-70% of the industry currently uses overhead rather than underground cables to deliver services. However, E.on, the largest of the three electricity utility companies in Hungary with a 60-65% market share, has suddenly decided to raise its charges ten-fold. Kéry believes the move could have serious consequences for smaller cable operators, especially in rural areas, trying to introduce broadband services.
