The Estonian public broadcaster ETV has become the first free-to-air (FTA) service to join the country’s DTT platform. Known as ZUUMtv, it made its commercial debut in December 2006 as an 18-channel pay-TV service and is expected to be offering between 22-24 channels later this year. ZUUMtv employs MPEG-4 compression and currently covers 80% of Estonia. However, it should be available nationally by Q2 2008. Analogue switch off in Estonia is due to take place on February 1, 2012.
