The German competition authority Bundeskartellamt is looking at the consortium of mobile operators Vodafone, T-Mobile and O2. The group wants to offer a nationwide DVB-H bouquet of 16 channels scheduled for a launch in the spring of 2008.
The investigation might result in a blocking of the proposed joint offer, because three of the four mobile operators are involved. Originally e-Plus was also part of the group, but the KPN owned operator withdrew from the project.
At the moment there is only one mobile TV operator active with a commercial offer, Mobiles Fernsehen Deutschland (MFD) has a 4-channel TV bouquet (plus radio) using the DMB standard. The service so far as attracted 10,000 subscribers, but is as yet not available nationwide.
