According to a local report, the leading Slovak stations STV, TV Markiza and TA3 have jointly agreed to use a common multiplex of frequencies during the transfer to digital broadcasting. A new law on digital broadcasting is due to be passed in Slovakia in the first half of this year and come into effect at the beginning of 2008. Separately, differences have emerged over the future of the Slovak transmission company Radiokomunikacie. Deutsche Telekom-backed T-Com would like to sell its stake in the company, while the state, a 49% shareholder, is opposed to the idea. Meanwhile in the Czech Republic, the public broadcaster CT has said it no longer plans to launch a fifth channel. Besides two national services (CT1 and CT2), it currently operates the digital channels CT24 and CT4 Sport. (CD)
