Moldova has approved amendments to broadcast legislation that will require the names of the owners of TV and radio stations to be made public.
According to Mediasat and Radio France International, they secured 78 out of 101 votes in the country’s parliament, with representatives of the Liberal Party being the only ones to vote against it.
They were proposing more far-reaching amendments that would have seen the owners of media outlets required to publish the origins of their finances.
Furthermore, companies registered offshore would not have been allowed to become owners of TV and radio stations in Moldova.
The approved amendments will come into effect in six months time.
