Germany’s third largest cable company Tele Columbus has acquired fibre-network operator Big Medienversorgung.
The Mönchengladbach-based company of which the purchase price has not been disclosed currently serves around 12,700 households in its core region North-Rhine Westphalia as well as in Baden-Württemberg and Berlin with an extensive TV offering. The customer base will rise to 16,400 by the end of 2014.
The households are reached through FTTB/FTTH fibre-optic networks. Tele Columbus wants to provide them with a telephony and internet service with a data rate of up to 150Mbps in addition to the TV service in future.
“With the integration of Big Medienversorgung into the Tele Columbus Group, we will combine the best of two worlds: Big’s regional sales strength and its high-value fibre-optic infrastructure and the attractive internet and telephone product world of Tele Columbus,” Stefan Beberweil, CCO of Tele Columbus, said in Berlin.
Beberweil will also become the new managing director of Big Medienversorgung.
