Discovery Polska has decided to exercise its option to buy the 51.06% of shares in Green Content, the operator of a DTT channel named Metro, it does not already own.
The move is a result of an agreement between Agora, the other owner of Green Content, and Discovery when the latter bought into the company in December last year, paying PLN14 million (€3.27 million) for a 48.94% stake.
Discovery Polska will now pay an additional PLN19 million to become the sole owner, with the deal being finalised on September 1.
Speaking to Wirtualne Media, Dorota Zurkowska-Bytner, senior VP and country manager for Discovery Networks in Poland, said that the company intends to retain the Metro channel’s name and to tailor its programming to viewers’ expectations but without asking for a change in its licence.
Significantly, Discovery was one of the failed bidders for a channel licence on Multiplex 8, used by Metro, in 2015.
