Virgin’s new V6 box and the development of Project Lightning has helped Virgin Media to a 36 per cent increase in net additions.
The Liberty Global company says take up of the Virgin TV V6 box has been robust with customer satisfaction “significantly higher” than with previous units.
It recorded rebased revenue growth of 2 per cent to £1,214 million in Q1 2017.
Virgin added 65,000 customer net additions with Lightning broadband representing a third of the total. However, 12-month rolling customer churn remained high at the end of the first quarter following last November’s price increases.
Video RGUs returned to growth with 39,000 net additions in Q1 compared with an 18,000 net loss in Q1 2016. The figures – following a revamped offer and additional promotional activity – represent the highest quarterly TV growth in the UK since Q4 2007.
Migration of existing mobile customers to the new 4G service launched in November 2016 helped achieve a 21% take up within the mobile base.
