Russia’s TV ad market grew by 10% in the first quarter of this year, according to Sergei Koptev, the first deputy director of the National Advertising Agency (NRA).
Quoted by Vedomosti, he added that the growth, compared to Q1 2016, and sales for this year as a whole “inspire confidence”.
The NRA has formed by The First Channel, VGTRK, Gazprom-Media and National Media Group following an announcement in March 2016 and currently controls 95% of TV advertising in Russia.
Last October it announced that the cost of TV ads would grow by 15% this year, while the ad revenues of all channels would increase by 10%. The reason for the discrepancy between the two figures was that some ad inventory would not be sold in advance and held as strategic stock.
However, a sudden drop in TV viewing in Q1 this year resulted in no stock being left. Furthermore, the cost of TV ads was only increased by 10%.
Figures produced by the Association of Communication Agencies of Russia (AKAR) show that the country’s TV advertising market grew by 10% to R151 billion (€2.52 billion) in 2016.
