The team behind the Cirkus subscription-video-on-demand service are to launch a new SVOD channel dedicated to documentary.
Curio is launching on Com Hem in Sweden and Get in neighbouring Norway. It becomes the first such channel in the region.
“We believe there is a clear gap in the Nordic pay-TV market for an SVOD service devoted to well made thoughtful programmes about important and interesting subjects,” said Cikus founders Mark Bradford and Hugh Williams. “In addition Curio will provide our platform operator partners with an important counterbalance to the US factual entertainment dominated schedules of their existing linear factual channels.
Content will be drawn from a variety of sources across the world.
“The Cikus team have proven themselves in delivering competitive content services with high customer affinity. The Cirkus service is highly successful among Com Hem subscribers. Expanding the offer into a genre with documented stickiness with customers makes perfect sense and we’re excited to bring Curio to our customers.”
Cirkus was founded in 2012 by Hugh Williams and Mark Bradford, both well-known UK television executives.
