Forming an association of paid-for content owners could be first step to monetising content on the internet, according to Boguslaw Kisielewski, president of the management board at Kino Polska.
Speaking at the final session of PIKE 2015, he added that there are already over 300 Polish language channels, with more to come following the launch of MUX-8, and there was a need for content owners to work together.
Georg Tacke, CEO, Simon-Kucher & Partners, meanwhile made the point that there is no free lunch – something that viewers should be made aware of, but in the right way. He also said that good content now costs on the internet and that piracy has gone down in markets in which Netflix has been introduced.
Philip Luff, MD UK & EMEA, Scripps Networks International, reiterated a point made earlier by Zygmunt Solorz-Zak, the founder and head of Polsat, in that it is difficult to charge for content once it has been available to viewers free of charge.
