Spain’s National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) has opened disciplinary proceedings against Mediaset for breaching the Law on Audiovisual Communication.
In particular, the broadcaster’s channels Cuatro and Telecinco stand accused of violating the maximum permitted airtime of 12 minutes per hour for advertising and teleshopping.
As this is considered a minor offence, Mediaset faces the prospect of a fine of up to €100,000 for each violation.
The CNMC says that the initiation of the proceedings does not prejudge the outcome of the investigation, which can take up to six months.
Mediaset has been given 15 days to respond to the charges.
