German pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland will continue to show the Wimbledon tennis tournament live and exclusively in Germany and Austria.
Sky Deutschland and the All England Lawn Tennis Club have agreed to extend their partnership until 2018. Financial details have not been disclosed.
Besides the TV broadcasting rights, the 5-year contract brokered by IMG Media on behalf of the All England Lawn Tennis Club also includes the exclusive internet, IPTV and mobile TV rights.
This year, Sky will report live from the 128th edition of the Wimbledon tournament between June 23 and July 6. As in previous years, Sky will cover the Grand Slam event on three parallel channels, so that viewers can follow the action on several courts at the same time.
For the first time, the Wimbledon tournament will be presented in the Sky HD Fan Zone. Here, the viewers have the option to watch all channels offered on one screen and switch between courts at the touch of a button.
With Sky Go, tennis fans have access to all live broadcasts via the web, iPad or iPhone as well as the Xbox360. In addition, viewers can watch daily highlight clips on Sky’s catch-up service Sky Mediathek on the internet.
