The Polish public broadcaster TVP has announced that its new entertainment channel TVP Rozrywka will launch on April 15.
At the same time, Poland’s National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) has granted a satellite licence to the information-based channel TV Republika.
TVP Rozrywka will become TVP’s ninth thematic channel (excluding TVP Parlament, which is only available on the internet) and initially reach 500,000 cable homes.
This follows agreements with Vectra, Toya and Petrus, and talks with other operators, including UPC, are still ongoing.
If successfully concluded, TVP Rozrywka will gain access to an additional one million homes.
The channel will in addition be distributed on the third DTT multiplex and may also gain carriage on the DTH platform nc+.
TV Republika meanwhile says it already has agreements in place with cable operators giving it a reach of one million homes.
The channel, which is operated by Telewizja Niezalezna, will make its debut in May.
