Romania could see the launch of what would be its fourth DTH platform as soon as next month.
An unconfirmed report in ZF says that Orange Romania, the country’s leading mobile operator, has signed a contract with SES Astra and will start a TV service in April or early May at the latest.
Contacted by Broadband TV News, SES Astra declined to comment on the report.
Romania is currently served by the DTH platform Digi, Dolce and Focus Sat, operated by RCS&RDS, Romtelecom and UPC DTH respectively.
Two further platforms – AKTA Satelit and Boom TV – were both taken over by Romtelecom.
Interviewed in the local press earlier this month, Jean François Fallaher, CEO of Orange Romania, said that the company was looking into the possibility of launching a satellite TV service but had yet to make a decision.
