2012 will see a big push in the rollout of DTT services in St Petersburg and Leningrad region of Russia.
Quoted by AKTR and Comnews, Igor Shchegolev, the country’s minister of communications and mass communications, said that the current 50% of homes now able to receive digital terrestrial TV would rise to 98% by the end of the year.
Total investment in the digitisation project in the two locations will exceed R500 million (€12.73 million), while for the whole of the Northwest of Russia it will amount to R6 billion.
DTT trials began in St Petersburg and the Leningrad region 10 years ago and the former is one of five cities chosen to start full DVB-T2 broadcasts in Q2 this year.
