UPC Polska will start preparations this year for the eventual launch of Horizon, according to Simon Boyd, the company’s CEO.
Speaking in a wide-ranging interview with Wirtualne Media, he added that it would be “our response the needs of clients looking for access to TV on demand over the internet”.
Commenting on UPC Live TV, which allows viewers to watch popular channels on their PCs, he said that UPC Polska would be concentrating on developing its digital platform and implementation of Horizon rather than widening the service.
Boyd also said that he expects to see further consolidation in the Polish cable market, which is still highly fragmented.
UPC Polska strengthened its position as the market leader late last year by completing the acquisition of Aster, until that point the country’s fourth largest operator.
Horizon is expected to make its debut in the Netherlands and Switzerland later this year.
