Kommersant to enter TV market

The Russian media group Kommersant plans to launch its own TV channel.

AKTR and RBK Daily report that the group, which is owned by Alisher Usmanov, is likely to spend between $2-5 million (€1.6-3.1 million) initially on what they term ‘Kommersant-TV’, followed by at least $2 million a year.

The service will offer social and political commentary, along with a large amount of business reporting, and will be distributed via cable and over the internet.

Kommersant’s current interests include a national business newspaper of the same name.
