Romanians living in small towns are deciding not to renew their analogue cable subscriptions due to difficult financial circumstances.
Quoted in ZF, UPC Romania’s CFO Severina Pascu added that for such customers a monthly fee of RON18 (€4.30) was proving to be increasingly unaffordable. However, in the case of UPC this has been offset by the growing take-up of other, more expensive services.
The number of digital TV subscribers in 2009, for instance, rose by nearly 100,000 to 245,600, and those taking internet and DTH (Focus sat) also increased significantly. HD and PVR, too, are proving to be popular.
As a result, UPC Romania’s managed to maintain the same overall level of income last year in local currency.
