The Latvian incumbent telco Lattelecom has introduce a pre-pay DTT offer to viewers living within a 70km radius of the capital Riga.
The channels it carries will be available free of charge for the first 30 days after customers purchase a ‘start-up’ package for LVL44.50 (€62.50), consisting of a LVL39 for a decoder and LVL5.50 for a smartcard.
Viewers in the rest of Latvia will continue to be offered a just a free package of five channels, though following ASO everyone in the country will have the opportunity to watch up to 70 digital TV channels.
DTT services are already watched in over 50,000 Latvian homes, while 21,000 have so far opted to watch the pre-pay offer.
DTT signals cover 99% of Latvia and the main TV channels in the country, starting with LTV1 within Riga and environs from April 1, will all be going digital in the next few months. The only exception at present is MTG’s TV3.
