upc_romaniaThe Bucharest Court of Appeal has set aside fines on UPC Romania totaling €7.1 million.

According to ZF, the first of these fines – €2.1 million – was imposed by the Competition Council 2006 for allegedly entering into a cartel agreement with its main rival RCS/RDS in the take-over of a company named Hi-Fi Quadral in the city of Timisoara.

A fine of €235,000 – also recently rescinded – was imposed on RCS/RDS for the same agreements.

The other fines, totaling €5 million, were for the possible abuse of their dominant position by two companies in Bucharest – Astral Telecom and Cablevision of Romania – subsequently taken over by UPC Romania.
