László Majtényi, the president of the Hungarian Radio and Television Board (ORTT), has resigned in protest over a tender for two national commercial radio frequencies.
The previous licence holders lost out to new ones, which according to local sources are close to the two main political parties in Hungary and submitted unfeasible business plans.
ORTT is, along with the National Communications Council (NHH), the main regulator of Hungary’s TV industry.
Majtényi is reported to have said that it is no longer possible to keep the ORTT free of party politics.
