The Open IPTV Forum has made public its Profiles Specification for Release 1 of its IPTV solution. Included is an over-the-top profile designed for the delivery of on demand services.
The specification is accompanied by a revision (Version 1.1) of its seven-volume Release 1 IPTV Solution specification, originally published in January 2009, and available on the Open IPTV Forum website. It includes updates to previous versions following an extensive review and feedback from implementers of the specification.
“This is a major step for the Open IPTV Forum as it brings us one step closer to the reality of having implementations of our specifications,” commented Yun Chao Hu, chair of the OIPF. “With almost all the major CE vendors represented in the Forum, we have every expectation that we shall see the Forum’s specifications implemented in CE devices in the coming years.”
In addition to the instructions for implementing over-the-top services, where terminal management feature are not involved, the Profile Specification adds the Baseline Management Profile, adding support for scheduled and streamed content, and the Enhanced Managed Profile, which adds native support for advanced converged services and networks.
Early implementations of equipment based on these profiles are due to be shown at the OIPF Interoperability Event in November 2009.
