UPC will officially launch its HD cable offer in Romania this Thursday (October 1).
Media Expres reports that the offer will initially consist of five channels – Pro TV HD, TVR HD, Eurosport HD, History HD and Fashion TV HD – and cost around €4-7 a month to receive.
UPC expects around half of its digital cable subscribers to opt for the HD offer, which is in due course also likely to include HBO HD and National Geographic HD.
UPC is employing Cisco technology for its new HD offer, with receivers being provided by Thomson and Pace.
By its projections, there will be around 640,000 HD ready units in Romania at the end of this year, along with 78,000 full HD plasma sets.
