Polsat turns to football

Polsat may soon be operating a football channel dedicated to just one team.

According to Wirtualne Media, Polsat’s owner Zygmunt Solorz-Zak has taken over Silesia-based Slask Wroclaw, having paid PLN11 million (€2.46 million) to secure control of the team, with its other shareholder being the city of Wroclaw.

Solorz-Zak, whose interests include the national commercial broadcaster Polsat and DTH platform Cyfrowy Polsat, had previously paid PLN4.7 million to buy a 24% stake in Slask Wroclaw.

He has already given an indication that he plans to launch a TV channel dedicated to Slask Wroclaw, which plays in the top Polish football league (Ekstraklasa).
