The association of Swiss cable operators (Swisscable) saw its digital home total grow by 27% to 510,000 in 2008. However, digital penetration at year’s end still stood at only 18%, “mainly because our analogue offer is so good,” according to Swisscable president Hajo Leutenegger.
The number of digital households grew by 100,000, with HD being the driver, according to Leutenegger, “We don’t know how many HD subscribers there are in the country, but one in three of people who go digital choose HD.”
The total number of Swiss cable homes stood at 2,867,000, which was slightly down from the previous year (- 0.48%).
During the past year, cable telephony customers were up 10% and broadband subscribers up 5% on the combined Swiss networks.
