The dispute over Russian TV channel distribution in Ukraine is by no means over yet.
A recent report in Telekritika says that the carriage of RTR Planeta is to discussed at diplomatic level between the two countries and TVC International plans to launch a Ukrainian version.
Ren TV is meanwhile still in negotiations with its Ukrainian partners and plans an international version of its service that complies with Ukrainian regulations.
The dispute began in late 2008, when the Ukrainian National Council for TV and Radio Broadcasting suspended broadcasts by several Russian channels, ostensibly on the grounds that they were failing to comply with local laws.
The council subsequently granted Channel One and Ren TV temporary permission to broadcast in Ukraine.
Ten other channels also received permission in December, as did – according to RAI Novosti – Feniks + Cinema, Ocean TV, Topshop TV and Zoopark in late February.
