The services offered by all of Romania’s five DTH platforms are more expensive to receive now then they were 12-18 months.
Such is the main finding of a study undertaken by ZF, which found that the three operating in the local currency – AKTA (formerly Max TV), Digi TV (RCS/RDS) and Focus Sat (UPC) – had raised their rates by between RON2-4.5 a month (€0/7-1.1).
The two charging in euros – Dolce (Rometlecom) and Boom TV (DTH Television) – were also more expensive due to the depreciation of the Romanian lei, which has lost almost 30% of its value since September 2007.
The study also highlights the big rises in installation costs, giving the example of Digi TV, which now charges RON250 for reception equipment rather than giving it away for free.
