Mobiele TV Nederland gets DMB licence

gtvTThe Dutch Ministry of Ecconomic Affairs has decided to issue a national DAB+DMB licence to Mobiele TV Nederland. The company plans to launch a mobile TV service in The Netherlands using the DMB standard. The new service will be in competition with KPN MobielTV, which uses DVB-H.

Mobiele TV Nederland BV is owned by a consortium of private investors, the French TDF company Media & Broadcasting and Mobiles Fernsehen Deutschland (MFD). The company was the sole applicant for the licence and will pay one euro.

KPN launch its DVB-H service in May of last year and currently offers 11 channels. About 30,000 people have signed up for the service, which is now offered free-of-charge to people signing up for the top-tier service and who choose a DVB-H capable handset.
